SummaCare Receives National Recognition for Disease Management Programs
11/23/2009 9:51:46 PM
Akron, Ohio, Nov. 23, 2009 – The Health Industries Research Company (HIRC) recently named Akron-based SummaCare as a health plan with the most effective disease management programs. The recognition is published in the 2009 Leading Disease Management Organizations report. The annual report is a collaboration of HIRC and Al Lewis of the Disease Management Purchasing Consortium (DMPC).
Organizations recognized were identified based on revenue, reputation and the ability to achieve expected outcomes as determined by the DMPC and the HMO panelists in spring 2009 market research conducted by HIRC.
“This is quite an impressive accomplishment,” said Al Lewis, president of DMPC. “In a typical year only 30 health plans get recognized at all, or roughly 5 percent of all health plans in the United States.”
SummaCare was recognized for three of its disease management programs – asthma, heart failure and diabetes.
“We know how important it is to the health of our members to provide the tools and resources they need to live and manage chronic conditions,” said SummaCare’s Chief Medical Officer, Teresa Koenig, MD, MBA. “We’re honored to receive this recognition for the fourth year in a row.”
