11/23/2009 10:14:12 PM
Akron, Ohio, Nov. 12, 2009 – U.S. News & World Report/National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has recognized SummaCare as the highest ranked plan in Ohio for its Medicare product and the second highest ranked plan in Ohio for its Commercial products in the survey of “America’s Best Health Plans 2009.” This is the fifth consecutive year that the Akron-based health plan has received recognition, earning 28th in the nation for its Medicare plans – up from 30th in 2008 – and 70th for its commercial plans.
The rankings are based on several reporting categories and measures, including:
- overall consumer experience, including satisfaction with plan physicians and health plan services;
- preventative services, such as childhood and adolescent immunizations and prenatal care;
- how well the health plan takes care of people with existing health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, hypertension and heart disease; and
- NCQA accreditation scores.
“Being recognized for five consecutive years by U.S. News/NCQA is a tremendous honor for everyone in our organization” said SummaCare President Marty Hauser. “Each and every day, our employees come to work focused on how to make a difference in the lives of our members. It’s this type of recognition that rewards their hard work, but that also reminds us that serving our members is the most important thing that we do.”
The complete list of America’s Best Health Plans will appear in the Nov. 16 issue of U.S. News & World Report. The rankings also will be accessible at www.usnews.com/healthplans on Nov. 12.
