SummaCare offers resources to help combat stress and anxiety, especially in these uncertain times

Posted May 15, 2020 by Charles A. Zonfa, MD, FACOG | Chief Medical Officer and Vice President, Network Development and Contracting

The nonstop news coverage and daily statistics on COVID-19 infections and deaths can leave anyone feeling stressed and anxiety filled, if not depressed. It’s only natural to worry about your own health and the health of your loved ones, especially when it comes to a new disease where not much is known.

Fear and anxiety about the recent COVID-19 pandemic can be overwhelming, isolating and cause strong emotions. You may notice:

  • Excessive worrying or fear that disrupts your daily activities
  • Extreme mood changes, including uncontrollable highs and lows
  • Changes in your sleeping or eating habits
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Physical symptoms without obvious causes, such as headaches or stomachaches
  • Increased use of alcohol, tobacco or other drugs

If some or all of these situations describe you, it’s time to seek help. The key is how you respond to your anxiety. Coping with stress in a positive manner will make you and the people you care about stronger.

Taking breaks from reading and watching the news coverage can help, as well as eating well-balanced meals and exercising regularly. But, if you notice the stress is getting in the way of your daily activities, SummaCare is here to help.

Your well-being is our top priority, especially in this unprecedented time of crisis. We offer several health and wellness programs that can help you maintain your strong mental health during — and even after — this pandemic. Learn more and then talk to your doctor about what’s right for you.

Teladoc®

Telehealth services are a great option to still get the care you need, while staying safe in the comfort of your own home and avoiding exposure and potential spread of the virus.

Through Teladoc®, members who may be feeling stressed, anxious or down can speak with a therapist or psychiatrist by web, phone or mobile app 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It’s quality care right when you need it most.

Behavioral health visits through Teladoc are covered for most members. You can visit www.teladoc.com or call 800.835.2362 (TTY: 855.636.1578) to set up your Teladoc account. The Teladoc provider will give you further instruction.
